to be a creator.
Okay so boom, let’s create.

What ch’all be creating? Do y’all be creating?
When I say create, I’m talking about anything you like to do as a form of release or self-care. Me? I like to write music, poetry, and blogs. I’m crafty with the words but I can’t draw a straight line with a ruler. My creations are all intellectually stimulating but I see soooo many people doing DIY projects and all that. If that’s you, comment so we can link. It would be dope to do a poetry and paint thing like in Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Family Reunion.
Music is another one of my personal favorite ways to connect to the world. As a creator, I have always viewed music as a way to see into the souls of the person who created it. Most art is pulled from what the artist sees, how they feel, and what they have experienced. I will never understand how people can separate the art from the artist. The artist had to pull the art from somewhere according to psychology. And songwriters - whew, the songwriters - are people to really admire (Jean Piaget’s Cognitive Theory). They can write songs and someone else can bring the art to life. Like, how dope is it to be able to share your art and have it touch millions of people? Whew.
My youngest sister loves to make things. She likes to bake and make dance videos. My middle sister is a classically trained dancer and loves to choreograph. I believe it’s her way of communicating without speaking. I mean, we all danced at some point but she is probably the better of the three girls. I can lean wit it and rock wit it and maybe hit the A-Town stomp. But, I can write and orate like no other. My little brother is the builder. Give him a hammer and he can make anything that his mind comes up with. Dude is dope like that.
I recognize that everyone is not a creator. So, I guess my question is, what do you do to express yourself? I will count the sand on the beach before I start a DIY project. That is not my ministry. But I will spend 27 hours completing a 2,000 piece jigsaw puzzle. Whatever you do to be happy, do the thing. We’re in a time where happiness is so rare and often not cherished enough. Create whatever makes you happy. And note that creating happiness is not always an outward process. See my previous post on how to be happy, healed, healthy, and whole.
If you needed a sign to step out and do something you’ve been wanting to do, here it is. Do the thing.
